This has been a major source of concern in our present-day world where domestic violence and abusive marriage has been the order of the and has not yet been tackled seriously. Men and women even children are suffering in our society today due to domestic violence and abusive marriage. In as much as people are suffering concerning this issue, many have also lost their life's in the process. This is a very vital topic that must always be talked about until men and women put an end to this issue of concern.


WHAT IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

The term domestic violence is abuse or violence carried out on a person in a domestic setting. Domestic violence is mostly seen or heard of in marriages and intimate relationships between two people. Often we hear of cases where a woman is been abused by a man whom she is in a relationship with or probably married too. In as much as domestic violence is circled more around women, men and children experience domestic violence as well. Is shocking how domestic violence has become a rising issue in our present-day world, though it has been in existence a very long time ago, but has started to become a major headline and topic of discussion on social media, national television and even in our working environment today because quite some people have lost there life's due to domestic violence. I have had of a story where a man locked his wife in a room and starved her to death because she refused to resign from her place of work before the man's demand caused by insecurity because she earns more money than him and he was scared the woman might grow to have more authority and say over him. Domestic violence's and abuse in marriages and relationships didn't just surface from nowhere, there must have been signs we often neglect that shows that our partner is abusive, and there are also different forms of abuse we do not know and we are about to find out all of these sign and forms of abuse and domestic violence.

Twists, slaps, punches, strangles or burns the victim.

Sexual violence and abuse can be very difficult for victims to talk about because of how this kind of violence is mostly carried out. Sexual violence or abuse can be indicated when the abuser Is jealous or angry and assumes she will have sex with anyone.

Withholds sex and affection as punishment.

Forced to have sex when she doesn't want to.

Insist on sex by manipulation or threats.

Sexual violence.

Forced into sexual acts that she is uncomfortable with, such as sex with a third party, physically painful sex, a sexual activity she finds offensive or verbal degradation during sex.

Inflicts injuries that are sex-specific.

Denies the victim contraception or protection against

sexually transmitted diseases.

In every form of domestic violence and abuse, psychological abuse is the most common form of abuse that is hardly noticed or taking not of. People are oblivious of the fact that they can actually abuse people psychologically and that the abuse may also have a psychological effect on the abused person.


ECONOMIC ABUSE

Economic abuse can also be seen when a woman is been restrained or prevented from going to school or getting a job to assist herself and the marriage. Most times she is not properly taking care of financially nor allowed to be a source of support for the marriage or the relationship.

Many women have lost their life due to domestic violence and also a major contribution to the ill health of women. It has serious consequences on women's mental and physical health. It has caused so many women to commit suicide, it has lead to so many miscarriages and lost of pregnancy, it has cost many women to be mentally unstable and emotionally traumatised, leaving them to constant emotional conflicts such as fear, anger, shame, resentment, sadness and powerlessness. It takes a lot of courage to cope with an abusive partner. Women have to adopt all kinds of coping strategies to survive each day. Domestic violence has also rendered most women homeless as a result of running away from their home for safety elsewhere.

Domestic violence and abusive marriage against men is generally less recognised but we still can't dispute the fact that men suffer domestic violence too which is why we are not neglecting the effect of domestic violence and abusive marriage on men. It has been discovered that men who report domestic violence can face social stigma regarding their perceived lack of exaggerated manliness and other denigrations of their masculinity. Men mostly suffer emotional violence and abuse in the sense that there are women in our society today who solely depend on these men to provide all of their basic needs but lack respect for these men. When these men who work so hard to make sure these women lack nothing are not able to provide any of their needs at a particular moment, the women lash out abusive words without filtering their words or bridling their tongues, thereby causing damages on these men emotionally, psychologically and health-wise. Most of these men suffer from high blood pressure which may lead to their death.

In a marriage involved with children where domestic violence takes place, the children are oftentimes the ones who suffer the most. Children who experience or watch one of their parents been abused by another of there parent are mostly affected psychologically. They tend to experience anxiety and depression, emotional distress, physical symptoms such as headaches and stomach aches, eating and sleeping disorder, self-harm, develop phobias, have low self-esteem, difficulty concentrating on their studies, lack care for other, find it difficult to solve problems. Children and young people need to grow up in a well-secured and peaceful environment free of domestic or any form of violence and abuse.
