3 tips to consider before divorce

Updated: Sep 3, 2020

Divorce can be stressful and emotionally affect you physiologically in deeper ways you don't expect. It can make you be either withdrawn, slow or harder to give another new relationship a chance. Before taking the big step to divorce, here are 3 tips you may consider before engaging in the full process of divorce.

1 Emotional Trauma

Are you ready for the challenges that come with divorce? Just as marriage isn't all that easy without putting in effort for it to work, so it is the same with divorce. Sometimes when divorce happens, the emotional stages is severe and it's exactly the same as losing, grieving or mourning a loved one. The shock, anger and sadness can't make you settle your feelings and thought. It sometimes leads to depression, withdrawal from friends, colleagues who may have known both of you when you were together.

2 financial budget

Before going fully into the Divorce process, have you made plan/ budget on how your finances will be after divorce?. Have you considered the cost of hiring an attorney and how you can cope with the legal fees before it is over? Also consider and think about life after the divorce, your daily expenses which will change once the divorce begins. Have you fully employed or a stay at home spouse who depended solely on the income of your ex? Remember if both of you shared the bills together before when you are married, you are now going to be fully responsible for your upkeep and expenses. If you don't have a stable income or enough savings to shoulder these responsibilities then you cannot be able to live independently after your divorce

3 Children reaction

Children either adopted or biological is the first thing to consider when it comes to divorce. They are sensitive to change and they may show their feelings in different ways.

1) Rebellion

2) Anger

3)fear

4)sadness.

Both partners should consider how they will react when they tell them about the divorce and how they will accept it. The way they will feel hurt and betrayed that the perfect family picture which they have grown up to see or dream of is being crushed by divorce
